Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in mainland China. According to statistics from Hong Kong, early detection and treatment can make a life-changing difference: the five-year survival rate for stage 1 breast cancer is as high as 99%, but this drops to just 30% if diagnosed at stage 4. Even if reports indicate the presence of breast nodules, it does not necessarily mean breast cancer; approximately 80% of cases are clinically benign but regular check-ups are still essential.

Effective Results of Proton Therapy

International studies indicate that breast cancer patients who undergo proton therapy have a five-year survival rate as high as 90% and a lower recurrence rate, significantly better than the efficacy of traditional radiation therapy.

Mild Side Effects of Proton Therapy

Traditional radiation treatment for breast cancer can affect organs such as the heart and lungs, increasing the risk of heart disease and pneumonia. Due to the precision of proton therapy, data from the HKSH Proton Therapy Centre shows that 95% of breast cancer patients experience only mild or no skin side effects after treatment.

Proton Therapy Can Precisely Target Tumours

Using the physical properties of the proton "Bragg Peak," treatment can be administered in fewer sessions at higher doses, concentrating radiation fully on the tumour. Treatment sessions have been reduced from dozens to just 5 to 15.

Four Types of Breast Cancer Patients Suitable for Proton Therapy

• Patients with tumours located in the left breast, especially those requiring regional lymphatic irradiation.
• Patients needing simultaneous radiation for both breasts.
• Patients who have previously undergone radiation therapy and require repeat treatment.
• Young patients who want to minimise side effects and have a history of heart disease or pneumonia.
