Medical Education
The Department of Ophthalmology is committed to providing exceptional clinical attachment and educational opportunities for medical students from the University of Hong Kong, as well as exchange scholars and doctors from Mainland China and around the world.
We regularly conduct continuing medical education activities, such as Ophthalmology Grand Rounds, to ensure our practices remain aligned with the latest advancements in the field, thereby upholding a high standard of care.
We take pride in our comprehensive Ophthalmology Resident Medical Officer (RMO) training programmes, conducted in collaboration with the Hong Kong East Cluster and Hong Kong West Cluster of the Hospital Authority. Notably, the Guy Hugh Chan Refractive Surgery Centre, a certified training centre for refractive surgeries, has successfully trained over 100 ophthalmologists to date, in line with our commitment to excellence in ophthalmic education and training.
Accredited Training Sites
The HKSH Department of Ophthalmology hosts accredited training centres for both the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong College of Surgical Nursing. Through the Department, the colleges provide specialist training programmes and postgraduate training in ophthalmic nursing.
As a certified training centre of refractive surgery and LASIK surgery, the HKSH Guy Hugh Chan Refractive Surgery Centre has trained over 100 ophthalmologists over the past decades.

Research
In addition to our training initiatives, our doctors are actively engaged in research activities. Their studies are regularly published in prestigious international and local journals, and presented at leading professional conferences.
