Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)

Patients undergoing transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) must be hospitalised and put under local anaesthesia. During the procedure, doctors use an oesophageal ultrasound probe to enter the oesophagus through the mouth. This allows them to perform real-time scanning of heart structures and assess the patient with greater precision for congenital heart disease, heart tumours or clots, valve disease, aortic dissection, and other conditions. TEE also serves as a supplemental diagnostic tool during cardiac surgery or structural heart intervention.
