Treatment

Psychological intervention focuses on aiding illness-related decision-making, resolving problems, enhancing coping skills and improving adjustment outcomes.
Our intervention areas include:
- Managing illness-related anxiety and stress
- Adjusting to major illnesses, surgeries, cancer, trauma, chronic pain, chronic illness, physical disabilities and other limitations
- Managing common mood problems, such as anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and other mood disorders
- Promoting better sleep, relaxation, and restfulness
- Fostering harmonious relationships and open communication between patients and caregivers
Additionally, we offer specialised psychological services for specific age groups:
For Children
Our psychological services for children focus on promoting mental and emotional well-being, assessing and managing learning difficulties, enhancing school adjustment, and alleviating problems related to discipline, conduct, interpersonal problems, and emotional adjustment.
For Women
We help women resolve physical and psychological health issues and provide them with advice on how to achieve success and fulfilment. Our services enhance problem resolution and adjustment at various stages of life.
For the Elderly
Our services for the elderly aim at enhancing adjustment to physical changes and cognitive decline in old age, and resolving personal and family issues at these late stages of life. These are deemed beneficial in promoting both quality and satisfaction in life.
For Special Populations
We cater to psychologically and physically traumatised individuals and patients with brain injuries. Those in need of neuropsychological rehabilitation will benefit from our professional psychological services.
For Cancer Patients
In collaboration with the Comprehensive Oncology Centre, we work towards enhancing the general wellbeing and coping skills of cancer patients. We offer monthly experience sharing sessions and psycho-educational talks for patients and their carers.
For more information, please visit the HKSH Cancer Centre’s website.
For Family Members
We provide consultation to family members who are confronted with difficulties, crisis and challenges brought about by their sick relatives. We offer advice with regard to their coping, and support to alleviate caregiver stress as well as to improve understanding and foster communication between family members and patients.
