High-Risk Obstetrics

We provide specialised pre-pregnancy counselling and comprehensive obstetric care for women who have experienced complications in previous pregnancies or have pre-existing medical conditions.
Adverse Past Obstetric History
- Prediction of Preterm Delivery
- The use of transvaginal ultrasound for cervical length assessment
- Regular monitoring and management if necessary (e.g. cervical cerclage)
- Prediction of Pre-Eclampsia/Intra-Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)
- Use the maternal medical history and Doppler ultrasound technique to predict the possibility of preeclampsia/IUGR
- Given prophylaxis ( e.g. aspirin) and appropriate management if necessary
- Monitoring of foetal growth and foetal wellbeing
- Identification of Underlying Medical Illness
- Gestational Diabetes
- Team approach to management (dietitian, diabetic nurse specialist)
- Ultrasound assessment for macrosomia and/or polyhydramnios
- Liaise with endocrinologist in joint counselling and management, if necessary
- Chronic Hepatitis B Carrier
- Regular monitoring of chronic Hepatitis B activity status (e.g. Hepatitis B DNA viral load) to predict the risk of neonatal infection
- Anti-viral medication given to decrease the risk of neonatal infection, if necessary
- Liaise with hepatologist in joint counselling and management, if necessary
- Gestational Diabetes
Pre-existing Medical Disease Complicating Pregnancy
- Cardiac diseases
- Endocrine diseases, e.g. thyroid disease
- Asthma/respiratory diseases
- Autoimmune/renal diseases
- Neurological disease
When needed, we will coordinate a collaborative team to arrange consultations with relevant specialists (such as cardiologists for women with cardiac conditions) to ensure comprehensive care is provided, tailored to your specific health needs.
