Urogynaecology

Urinary incontinence is a common condition among women, affecting 15 to 20% of those over the age of 40. Our urinary incontinence service is managed by a dedicated team of urologists, gynaecologists, experienced continence nurses, physiotherapists and dietitians. The aim of the service is to provide proper assessment and treatment for women suffering from this problem, resulting in vast improvements in their quality of life.

Our service, in collaboration with the Department of Health Assessment, utilises state-of-the-art urodynamics equipment to conduct comprehensive urodynamic studies. This advanced technology enables us to accurately diagnose various types of urinary incontinence for precise and effective treatment planning.

The treatment approach for urinary incontinence is tailored to each individual, taking into account the specific type and severity of the condition you're experiencing. Treatment options include pelvic floor exercises guided by our expert physiotherapists, medication and surgery such as Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT).

TVT is a recent advance in the management stress incontinence in women. It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure with a proven 85% – 90% success rate. It also has the benefit of being a simple, short and safe procedure with few complications, and the resulting scar is small as compared with other currently performed surgical treatments.

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when weakened pelvic floor support structures allow organs such as the uterus, bladder or rectum to descend into the vagina. Mild cases often don't cause symptoms and may not require treatment.

Treatment options will depend on the type of prolapse you have, how severe it is, and your individual circumstances. Our doctor will examine you to determine the type and severity of prolapse and then design a suitable treatment plan for you.
