Specular Microscopy
Specular microscopy is a non-invasive imaging test used to evaluate the health of the corneal endothelium—the innermost layer of the cornea. This test captures highly magnified images to analyze the size, shape, and density of endothelial cells, which are crucial for pumping fluid out of the cornea to keep it clear. It is an essential diagnostic tool for assessing conditions like corneal degeneration, and ensuring the safety of intraocular procedures such as cataract surgery and Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) implantation.
