Refractive Surgery

Our centre has extensive experience in implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery over the past 20 years. Since August 2018, we have incorporated the fifth-generation ICL lenses (V5), which offer better improvements in night vision and better sizing options. This development demonstrates our commitment to advancing eye care technology and meeting the changing needs of our customers. Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) are implanted without removing the natural lens. The procedure is designed for people who have very high myopia or thin cornea but are not suitable for refractive surgery on the cornea. 

The most common type of ICL is a posterior chamber lens. This lens has a wide range and can correct as high as 1,800 degrees of myopia, 1,000 degrees of hyperopia, and 600 degrees of astigmatism. With minimally invasive surgery, the surgeon will create a small incision on the edge of the cornea and place the lens between the iris and the natural lens to correct the patient’s vision. 

The advantages of ICL include retaining natural accommodation, treating high myopia and astigmatism, and minimal risk of retinal detachment. One major advantage is it is reversible. It can also be used on stable corneal degeneration conditions, such as keratoconus.

How to prepare for an examination? 

1. Make an appointment with our Centre for a complete eye examination and evaluation.
2. Wear eyeglasses and stop wearing contact lenses before eye examination:
   • Soft lenses for 3 to 7 days
   • Hard or gas-permeable contact lenses for 1 to 2 weeks
3. On examination day, you may experience blurred vision and increased sensitivity to light after receiving dilating eye drops for the examination. You are advised to bring your sunglasses and refrain from driving.
