Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) and Transepithelial PhotoRefractive Keratectomy (Trans PRK)

PRK is a refractive surgery that corrects low to moderate myopia and astigmatism. For corrections of less than -8.0 dioptres, PRK is highly accurate and the effect is permanent. PRK involves a procedure in which the outer layer of the cornea is removed and the underlying corneal tissue is then reshaped using an excimer laser. As the corneal curvature is changed, light rays will focus on the retina to form a sharp image.
The advantages of LASIK over PRK are minimal postoperative pain, faster recovery and larger range of refractive errors that can be effectively treated.
