Patient Newsletter –“Prostate Health”

According to data from the Centre for Health Protection, prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men. In 2023, it ranked third in incidence accounting for 16.2% of all new cases. Its age-standardised incidence rate has shown an upward trend over the past decade.

Prostate cancer generally grows slowly, with few noticeable symptoms in its early stages. However, when detected early and treated appropriately, cure rates are high. This issue brings together a team of HKSH specialists, including resident medical officer, nuclear medicine specialist, clinical oncologist, urologist, biochemist, and dietitian to explain the latest developments in screening, PET/CT scans, radiotherapy (including proton therapy), minimally invasive surgery, and dietary recommendations, providing a multi-perspective overview of advances in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and related issues.
