Family Medicine and Primary Care

Family Medicine addresses the different dimensions of health problems in the community. It plays a critical role integrating theories and practices in biological, clinical and behavioural sciences in the provision of primary and holistic care to patients.

Primary healthcare is the first point of contact for all patients and their families in a continuing healthcare process which provides accessible, comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centred care in the context of family and community. Our goals are health promotion, disease prevention, disease management and supportive care.

In recent years, as healthcare systems in different parts of the world experience enormous resource constraints in the provision of specialist care, increasing attention has been paid to the importance of primary care. Enhancing the quality of Family Medicine is the most cost-effective way to resolve these problems and contributes to the provision of excellent medical care over the long term. We believe that every patient should have convenient access to a family doctor. We provide care for all patients and aim at building an enduring and trusting relationship. We help patients navigate the healthcare system including specialist referral and hospital care coordination and follow up. 

We have Family Medicine and Primary Care Centres located in Happy Valley, Central, Admiralty, Taikoo, North Point and Shau Kei Wan. Our goals are health promotion, disease prevention, disease management and supportive care. Accredited by the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians since 2001, the HKSH Family Medicine and Primary Care Centre (Happy Valley) is a well-recognised facility for specialist training of doctors in family medicine.
