Colonoscopy is performed to diagnose and treat problems of the large intestine.
It is useful for the diagnosis of:
- Colonic polyps
- Cancer
- Inflammatory bowel diseases (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease)
- Haemorrhoids
- Diverticulosis
Therapeutic interventions:
- Removal of colonic polyps to prevent colon cancer
- Metal stenting to relieve obstruction
- Endoscopic submucosal dissection
