What are Prosthetics and Orthotics?
Prosthetics involve the creation and application of an artificial substitute for missing body parts to improve mobility, body limb function and appearance.
Orthotics focus on the use of specialised braces to maintain or correct joint alignment, protect joint integrity, relieve pain and improve function.
Services
This service includes a pre-operative examination, operation, post-operative physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as well as artificial limb (prosthesis) design and fitting.

Prosthetic Service
We provide functional and cosmetic upper limb prostheses.
We can design high-energy response legs for running, trail walking and other sports. These computerised prostheses control the lower limb to provide an extremely smooth gait pattern with minimal energy consumption.

Orthotics Service
We specialise in creating custom external applications such as braces, splints, and orthoses to enhance function or provide protection for specific body parts. Our tailored solutions address a wide range of orthopaedic and neuromuscular conditions.
Infants and paediatric management: As part of our comprehensive paediatric orthotic care, we provide specialised devices such as Pavlik harnesses, Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs) and hand splints.
Paediatric insole service: We offer advanced foot analysis for children with various foot problems to create customised orthotic insoles.
Scoliosis Management: The number of children suffering from idiopathic scoliosis (spontaneous curvature of the spine) is becoming notably more common in Hong Kong. Treatment should be given as soon as the problem is detected in order to reduce further deformity of the spine and achieve optimal results.
Our professional orthotist provides a full range of foot assessments and analyses to make individualised foot orthoses for patients with different foot problems or syndromes.
Common foot problems include:
- Flat feet
- High arch feet
- Hallux valgus
- Genu valgum, also known as “X-Knee” or “knock knee”
- Genu Varum, also known as “O-knee” or “bow leg”
- Heel spurs
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Forefoot pain
- Diabetic foot
- Leg length discrepancy
Composed of 33 vertebrae, the spine provides attachment for muscles, keeps the body upright and protects the spinal cord. A healthy spine should align straight when seen from the back. Any lateral curvature over 10 degrees (giving the spine an S or C shape) is defined as “scoliosis”.
The commonest type of scoliosis is “idiopathic scoliosis”, the cause of which is unknown. Statistics show that girls are two to three times more likely to have scoliosis than boys.
Deterioration of scoliosis is common during puberty. However, once bone maturity is reached the chance of further deterioration is low.
Treatment of scoliosis depends on a number of factors, including the severity of the curve of the spine. We provide timely and effective orthotic treatment to reshape the spine for optimal medical results.
Pectus carinatum (pigeon chest) and pectus excavatum (funnel chest) are two common kinds of chest deformities. To correct a deformed chest, we reshape it through braces and complementary treatments. We are also pioneers in developing high quality pectus braces in Hong Kong.
Various types of braces are applicable in orthopaedic and traumatic cases. These orthoses primarily function by positioning joints, assisting movement or limiting motion, as needed. Unlike traditional Plaster of Paris casts, all our orthoses are removable for hygiene purposes and are significantly lighter in weight. This design allows patients to experience a more comfortable healing process, promoting better compliance and potentially faster recovery.
Types of braces:
- Finger splint
- Dynamic hand splint
- Static hand splint
- Humeral fracture brace
- Long arm brace
- Hinge knee brace
- Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) braces
- Knee Brace for Osteoarthritic Knee
- Underarm brace
- Achilles tendon brace
- Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) braces
For neurological conditions causing weakening and spasticity, our therapists assess and provide specialised orthoses to support and control affected limbs, optimising body condition for further rehabilitation training.
CRO is a conservative and effective method for managing paediatric skull shape deviations before skull fusion. We use 3D scanning to capture the baby's head shape and customise a CRO to guide skull growth towards the desired shape.
We offer a simple, affordable, non-surgical solution for babies with protruding ears and ear shape issues.
