Our Team of Specialists Can Help You Get Back In The Game

HKSH’s sports medicine and orthopaedic professionals provide expert care

French physician Nicholas Andry coined the term orthopaedics in the eighteenth century by combining the Classical Greek words euthýs ("straight") and paidós ("child"). Reflecting its etymology, orthopaedics originally focused on the prevention and correction of physical deformities in children.

Today, orthopaedics is a medical specialty concerned with diseases, injuries and other conditions of the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system consists of the body's bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Many skin and wound problems are also managed by orthopaedic surgeons.

Background

Established on 5th March 2004, the Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Centre at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital is the first and only facility of its kind in Hong Kong’s private healthcare sector. It was founded in response to growing demand for comprehensive orthopaedic and sports medicine services, driven by frequent work- and traffic-related injuries in metropolitan areas, the needs of an aging population and the increasing emphasis on fitness and injury prevention.

The Centre offers advanced care for trauma, tumours and degenerative conditions, with a team of leading orthopaedic specialists in tumour management, hand and upper limb surgery, microsurgery, joint replacement, spine care and sports medicine. Collaborating closely with other hospital departments, the Centre is dedicated to restoring and enhancing patients’ physical potential and overall quality of life.
