Reproductive Medicine
At our IVF Centre, we help to make the impossible, possible
The HKSH IVF Centre has been offering first-rate patient care and in vitro fertilisation (IVF) services to infertile patients since 1986.
Our dedicated team comprises gynaecologists/reproductive specialists, urologists, endocrinologists, clinical psychologists, professional nurses and embryologists. All are highly experienced in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), which has been successfully applied at our Centre to treat male and female infertility.
But what really sets us apart is our patient-oriented service. We listen to you. We understand you. We help you to achieve your dream of having a family.
Services
Over the years, we have been continually improving our state-of the-art facilities to maximise the quality of embryos transferred to patients. As a result, our success on the take-home-baby rate by IVF has been dramatically increasing. The cutting-edge technology of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), i.e. injecting a single sperm into an oocyte, has also been very successful producing embryos for patients who suffer from male infertility. This means there is hope for patients who do not have sperm in their ejaculate, as it can be retrieved from a testis (testicular sperm extraction, TESE) or its appendages, such as microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA). Healthy babies have been born using these technologies.
In addition, we offer natural cycle IVF using oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM) technology. The application of IVM also allows embryologists to freeze the oocytes for cancer patients prior to their radiation therapy or chemotherapy for the purpose of preserving fertility for use after recovery.
FAQ
The quality of eggs is much related to age. It is unquestionable that the older the age, the lower the egg quality. Diet and exercise do not have much to do with it. People in need should seek help as early as possible.
This is not necessary. Results of semen analysis vary each time. You should undertake at least 2 tests and calculate the average sperm count. If the final result is zero, the husband should consult a urologist to estimate the possibility of drawing active sperm from testicles or epididymis.
The possibility of a successful tubal ligation reversal surgery depends largely on the location and duration of the tubal ligation. Your doctor should be able to estimate the feasibility of such a surgery.
Other than the reversal surgery, IVF is another available choice. To make the best decision, you should consider the following:
- Age
- The likelihood of an ectopic (extra-uterine) pregnancy
- The cost
You should discuss the above with your doctor to find out which treatment suits you best.
Do not waste your time. Seek assistance from infertility specialists to learn whether you need to take more tests to find out the reason for infertility. According to your personal needs, infertility specialists will offer professional advice, including the simplest calculation of ovulation cycle and the information of various infertility treatments.
It is around 8% to 15%, depending on the age of the patient and the reason for infertility.
There is no definite answer. Infertility specialists will usually arrange a few IUI sessions for patients. If the results are not satisfactory, then you can turn to IVF.
Please refer to the "Statistics" section on this website.
You do not have to be waitlisted. Contact our infertility specialists, and treatments can be arranged right away.
No. IVF can be carried out as long as your ovary works. Egg quality will deteriorate with age. The earlier you undergo treatment, the higher the success rate.
Around 4 weeks, from ovulation induction to pregnancy test. The time may vary as each patient may choose a different ovulation induction method and have a different reaction towards medication.
There is no limit. IVF can be done as long as the sperm and eggs of the couple are of good quality. If the patient tries IVF 3 times and it still does not work, the success rate will be relatively low as there may be some unknown unfavourable factors.
